A jewel of the Libyan Sea , this quiet small town, set on the southern shores of Western Crete, enjoys an ideal climate extending into the winter months.
Unspoilt Paleochora sits on a peninsula, bordered on each side by beautiful beaches, and ending at the side of a Venetian fortress. In the hills behind the town are many villages with interesting churches, some Byzantine dating back to 14th century.
The spectacular Samaria Gorge, the longest in Europe , can easily be reached from many walks amid a profusion of wild flowers and panoramic views.
A regular ferry service connects Paleochora with Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro and Chora Sfakion, and most importantly with the island of Gavdos, at the end of Europe.
